The Bet Of A Lifetime.

Hey, Kate here.

In class we read a short story called “The Bet”, “The Bet” is a story about a banker and a lawyer and they make a bet about the lawyer staying in jail and if it’s better to stay in jail and live but barely or to be executed. This short story was written by a very famous author Anton Chekhov. Anton Chekhov has also written books such as, “Darkness”, “The Darling”, “A Dead Body” , “A Happy Ending”, “The Horse Steelers”, “The Looking-glass”, “old age”, and “The Petchenyeg

The way that this story shows relationships is that how the lawyer could have not taken the bet, grown up, had a family but instead he decided to go on without a relationship. Even though the lawyer was closed in the wing, he still had relationships. He had a bond with his knowledge and his books.  Power could change a relationship by showing the other what it means to be wealthy or wise. Power also changes the person by having the person take responsibility for there actions and not letting the fact of having power get to the persons head. For all they know they might loose that power in a couple of years they could have lost that power over people.

In the end I like the story the bet because it teaches people about endurance, power, strength, money, and most of all the wonders of knowledge.

Try These Out.

For those of you who live in big cities, you probably have a lot to do all the time but for us in small towns like Snow Lake there’s not much to do. But if you’re looking for fun in a small place with nothing to do, try these out:

Small Towns:

The following activities are some that you could do in a small town.

Swimming:

Swimming is a fun energetic way to stay in shape; you could swim in a small town with a lake with a couple of friends. Swimming can be fun even if you’re in a Lake, Pool, Ocean, River, it doesn’t matter.

Sliding:

Sliding takes place in the winter and it’s a great way to spend the day. Sure it might be tiring climbing to the top but when you get there, it’s worth it.

Skating:

Skating is another fun way to stay in shape, weather its hockey. Figure skating or even if it’s just for fun it’s a fantastic way to have a good time.

Ski-dooing:

Ski-dooing is a fun way you could spend time with your family, or instead of going on a ski-doo you can go on a Quad.

Fishing:

Personally I like to go fishing because it’s a thrill when you catch one. I also like fishing because we go as a family so that we can spend time together.

These are some of the activities that you cold do instead of sitting around watching television or going on the computer. The way that this connects with my social studies project is by showing people the different things that you could do in a small town that you wouldn’t be able to do in larger socities evryday, I hope it helps.

Towns Vs. Cities

    Hey, it’s Kate
I like living in a  small town because of all of the benifets of knowing  evreyone. I also like haveing barely any violence. But there are down sides to living in a small town that cities have and there are bad benifets in living in a city too.

 Towns:

Small towns are something that I know about, I’ve lived in one for 12 years and all. Small towns give parents the oppertunity to know that there children are safe. In small towns there is a low violence rate because evreyone knows you, the health care is also good because you can get to the hospital quick if you need to (but most people don’t have to). The down side of liveing in small towns is that news travells fast. Also theres not any where to shop..only for grocries.

Cities:

Cities aren’t my favorite because of the polution, but also I dont like them because of the high crime rate that some of them have. But I also like cities because there are always job openings.Cities are also great for going shopping, you can always find what you need when shopping in a large mall, small towns don’t have that option to go shopping, unless it’s for food. Cities may have good health care but it takes longer to get to the hospital in the cities, there is also lots of traffic there.

 Conclution:

My conclution is that I like living in a small town so that when I do get to go out of town I can buy myself things that i normally wouldnt get. I also like living in a small town because there is amazing scenery and great people to meet.

Are you Blogging This?

Hey, its Kate here, in going to tell you the difference between blogging and writing on paper.

Paper:

When you write on paper there are negatives and positives, I’ll give you the negatives on writing on paper first, just to give it the whole suspense thing that people go for these days, here’s the down side of writing on paper, you’re most likely to make spelling errors, your using a piece of paper which comes from trees and then that dangers the environment, on paper there’s no spell check so people like me who are horrible spellers get a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes. You also might write one word over and over again. Now on the plus side writing on paper is a good way to do rough copies so that you can make marks on the paper, also the good thing about writing on paper would be to make flyers, so that you could put detail where you want it.

Blogging:

Blogging has its ups and downs too. But I am going to switch it up a bit and tell you the good things about blogging other then writing on paper. With blogging you can type it on word and spell check it before hand rather then get words spelled wrong. Also I prefer blogging because normally people can type faster then they can write, and if it’s for homework you can’t forget it at home on the kitchen table because it’s on the internet there’s a youtube video that my teacher Mr. Fisher found that would explain the title of my post, you can find it HERE.  Now sadly it’s time for the bad news about blogging. The worst part is, it’s out there, and every one can see it, once it’s up on the internet you can’t get it down. Also you have no idea who is on the other end reading your post, that’s why you have to be safe while you’re online. Mr. Fisher assigned the class to watch two video’s about internet safety you can find then at the following links, the first one is a music video by brad paisley called online  and the second one is called  bulletin board .

Personally I would rather blog then write on paper because I am a really bad speller and I like being able to use spell check but that’s just me.

Me, Myself, and I.

Hi,

My name is Kate and I go to JHK School. My teacher this year is Mr. Fisher, I had him last year in grade seven too because it is a 7\8 spilt. Our community contains of about 700-800 people in it. Our community is so small that it takes not even 15 minuets to walk around it! Where we live is about 2 hours away from any kind of civilization. In our 7\8 split there are 22 people not including the teacher. We have classes here that we have to participate in to pass the grade, those classes include, gym, home economics, math, French, ELA, social studies, science, ECT. School starts at 9:00 AM and we have recess at 10:15 AM for 15 minuets. For lunch we leave at 11:45 AM and return at 12:45 PM, we have a second recess at 2:05 PM for another fifteen minuets, and then school ends at 3:30 PM. Normally we don’t get homework but when we do it only takes about 15-30 minuets. Snow Lake is a very beautiful town with really nice people, it is a quiet place to live even though sometimes it’s boring but we have a lot of trails to go quading and ski-dooing in. our town has its own website. You can see this website at the following link, click HERE.

Rite now I am in a club called junior Canadian rangers, it’s a military program in remote communities all over western Canada. I am second in command of our patrol here, first in command is Darren. This summer I went to a camp held at Strathcona Park in British Columbia. At that camp we did all sorts of things but only 6 people were selected to go, I am glad that I was one of the lucky ones that were selected. While we were there we went zip lining, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, a high ropes course, climbing a 50 foot tree, rock climbing, playing new games and kayak soccer, and last but not least met amazing people that I talk to every night over msn, they have gotten to be great friends. Junior Canadian Rangers is a free program for anyone to join; you get free uniform, free hats…Everything. Some of my friends are in rangers with me, but then again some aren’t, there are only 10 junior rangers joined in the group and were hoping that we will get more people to join the group. Other things that we have here for entertainment are a youth center to hang out on Friday nights in, the beach for going swimming on hot summer days, park where you can sit at and talk with your friends at and the best part is that every one knows each other here, there are no strangers so your family doesn’t have to worry about you.

Snow Lake is a great place to grow up because there is no crime and there is rarely ever a time where you need to call the police. Most of the population here is of older people because it’s quiet and perfect for a retirement town but there are children and middle aged men and women too. Snow Lake has excellent wild life and beautiful houses that don’t cost a lot.

The sports that we have here include hockey, track, volley-ball, skating, snow shoeing, badminton, ECT. The sports played here are for many ages, skating is for children as young as the age of 5 maybe even younger.

That’s about all I can tell you about Snow Lake you should visit the links I gave you and you might find something interesting.

Peace out
